So I got a 265 gallon Marineland tank from craigslist. I set it up. Had is cycle for 3 months with some convicts. Then I got a 5 inch Jardini from my LFS. After a good quarantine, I took out the convicts, put them in their respective tanks and then put the Jardini in the 265. Everything was good to go. Knowing how Jardinis' tempers can be, I was planning on leaving the tank for him alone but I could not help it and I bought two 2–2.5 inch Oscars from the same store about a month later. What can I say, I am sucker for Oscars. I love their personalities.

After I quarantined the Oscars, I put them in the 265. A week later I notice some marks on the Jardini’s scales and torn fins. I thought they could be fighting but could see nothing wrong with the Oscars so then I felt like this was some type of sickness he probably caught from them. After a lot of research nothing matched to what was wrong. Water parameters were all great and doing weekly water changes. Then I noticed the Jardini was hanging out next to the power head, all day and night. Then after setting up a webcam to record the tank, I saw what was happening. The Oscars were constantly beating up the Jardini when no one was there, which is not too much b/c it is in the basement. When one of us walks by the tank, the Oscars instantly shoot for the top of the tank hoping to be fed. They were hitting/bumping him in almost the exact same spots where I noticed the problems on his scales. I split up the tank with some egg crate. 2/3rds for the Jardini. Now he is happy as a jay bird. Once I can find some space for another tank, I am going to move the Oscars over.

Who would of thought? Three small fish in a decent sized tank and the Oscars are bothering the Jardini.

Sorry, no pics for now. I am too embarrassed because recently I have been traveling and the tank is a mess and has a bad case of green pea soup water, LOL. I hope to post some pictures once everything is back to normal which should not be long.

Those who care for other peoples pets should follow instructions rather than doing things at their own will. Anyways that’s my story. Take care.

I would move the oscars and focus on the jardini. You could add some bottom fish like clown loaches, rays, or bichirs. If you like oscars you could get some smaller oscars an let them grow with the jardini.

Haha jars have a big reputation for being aggro, but then again its just a stereotype haha my jar is all bark and no bite. He is about 8"-9" rough estimate and is always sizing up new tank mates, he shares a tank with a 3" NTT and cannot hold his ground against this little guy.
