Hello, I am gong to be getting my 7ft aquarium delivered next week, I had been planning a cichlid/oddball tank. However in my lfs I saw a jardini Arowana (marketed as pearl Arowana).. I was a little hesitant as I know they get BIG! The lfs owner said it would be fine but I am not entirely sure.

The tank will be 7ftx2ftx2ft so around 220 gallons. Basically my question is would a jardini be happy in the tank? Is the space sufficient and if so would it have to be a single specimen tank or could I have tank mates?

Thanks, it's kind of my dream tank and I am probably over thinking it!

Jardini will do just fine in that size with tank mates as well, if he will tolerate them!

Cool! I just needed some additional clarification. The jardini is pretty tiny, around 2-3 lnches, so I figure If he grows up with the other fish and it's fairly heavily aquascaped (which is the plan) they should be okay.

What is the max length of the jardini?

I have seen online it's 90 cm but the guy in he shop say anything more than 60 cm is very rare. Does this sounds about right?

20-24" is pretty much what you see. Can hit around 18" in a year and a half or so and really slow down from there.

The aggression just really depends on the fish, some are fine, some arent. My new growout seems to be fine with anything that isn't in his face, but completely rejected some datnoids that were probably 3x his weight. My old 2'er wouldnt eat even eat feeders, so its really hit or miss.

Hello , a 7x2x2 would be fine ideally 7x3x2 would be a better turning circle.
As for tank mates I've never kept a jardini solo In ten years of keeping them you just have to pick them wisely and a lot of trail and error along the way; )
Decent sized catfish work very well , Birchirs I've had success with too.
Cichlids can work but they have to be very hardy and it's a massive gamble (never really ends well imo)
As for ditherer fish silver dollars and tinfoil barbs can work but if your jardini hates silver fish (about 50%do) they will die at some stage

Yeah I totally get that, it's like the cichlids and fahaka I own... My salvini is a psychotic axe murder and my fahaka is soft a butter! It just depends on the fishes temperament.

I am told the jardini they have in the shop is captive bred so I am hoping for less aggression.

Ah cool thanks for the heads up on the silver fish! I guess it's a prey reflex on their part.

I will just see what works. I have no issues with swapping fish out if there is to much aggression. I did that with my fahaka and ended up with a good community tank for him.

Captive bred or not jardini aggression is next level when it starts ,Imo not many fish can take the constant relentless bullying I've had huge cichlids buckle and fold to a 2ft jardini and die within hours of being left alone.
It all depends on the individual fish , females are worse in my experience so if you get a feisty female expect trouble ;)

I've had Salvini batter big jags midas in the past they are hard pound for pound fighter's so at least you've had a taste of aggressive fish already hahahahahha

Oh ****, okay cool thanks I will keep a close eye on it! Nice to get some Intel from people that have actually owned the fish... Think I will give it a go and if the worst happens the fish can go back to the shop.. It's only £50.

But if it works out
