Anyone know the growth rate of a jar for about 6 months? I have the opportunity to get a little two-incher and put it in my 55 gallon for growout, until I get my new tank in around six months, which will probably be around 480 gallons or so. However, I know that a 55 gallon is way to small for a jar once it gets slightly bigger, and that it will also begin to kill it's tankmates at around 8 inches. Will the jar be okay in a 55 gallon for around half a year?

mine grew three and a half inches in just two months
i got it at 5-6" and now its nearly 9"
and hasn't started killing any tank mates though
but it is a real skittish fish
and wouldn't welcome any new tank mates for sure

So, with tankmates, It should be okay for a while as long as no new ones are introduced after it, and they are all the same size?

i assume it depends on what your feeding it...my Jar grew slooooow! got him at 3" he grew only 5" in 10 monthes or so :( ...i got him in a 120gallon w/ no tank mates.

Have you read the sticky abiut jardini with tankmates? If you want tankmates it's gonna be trial and error, you just need to make sure you have an additional tank for seperating. If the jar will accept no tankmates are you prepared to devote your 400+ gallon tank to just one fish?

Yeah, I would be allright with putting it in the tank by itself, so I guess I'm all set. Thanks for your help everyone.
