OK I'd like to know some experience of jardini keepers, and successful attempts to keep them in predatory communities.

I've had 1 jardini that started ripping up all my fish, was moving soon so I sold it.

However I'm going to try another one, so I'd like to hear some success stories.

im very interested in this aswell, setting up a predatry commune come november and would love to hear any success(or faliures) keeping Jardinis in communioties (sry to hijack ur post)

Until I get a bigger tank I'll be putting it in a 180 with some bichirs, an oscar, a loisellei, a JD, a red terror (festae), a big clarias, a shovelnose, a big goldfish, a gourami, couple of small cats, a swamp eel, a papyrocranus afer and some pbass.

I think it could be busy enough that the jardini won't have a target to pick on, too busy for anyone to get seriously hurt. Maybe the odd nip, chase, but no fully fledged fighting.

The jardini I had before was mean, but I think the problem was there were just 4 fish to pick on in the 180, 4 midwater swimmers. All smaller than him too. A young micro, a young pbass, and 2 acestrorhynchus. This time the jardini is going to be smaller, and the tank a lot busier.

Although the jar I had before was nasty, he did get his ass kicked by a smaller albino snakehead, then I had to remove them.

no success story hear my jardini picked off tankmates one by one

I have the exact same problem as you here Rumble. My lfs has the most gorgeous jardini I've ever seen, with black fins and silvery (instead of red) dots, with a silver lining.

Sooooo tempted to try it, but have had a bad experience with a 20 inch jardini in the past that killed EVERYTHING in the tank, including a pair of cichlids which shall remain nameless. Don't wanna start THAT sh*tfight again.

A friend at the moment has a 20cm (8 inches?) jar with a pair of breeding jewels and its working out OK. The jar is still pretty small though, so will see how it works out in the future.

I only had Silvers and they were friendly..
Are Jardini's really so much more agressive?
yup they are not at first but once they're close to a foot they start trying to attack people outside the tank

My jar is at about 14"+ now (jaw to base of tail) and gets on ok with his tankmates. He's with a 12" clown knife, 10" tiger oscar, 2 6" tinfoil barbs, 2 4" clown loaches, a parrot and 3 plecos.

Their upgraded home will be ready this weekend :headbang2 so they'll finally be getting the space they deserve ... only in a 3x2x2 90G at the moment.

The jar is definately the alpha in the tank, but he does tolerate the others. I think it's just up to the individual temperament of the aro, and whether or not it grew up with it's tankmates.

If you don't try ... you will never know

how about keeping them with other non aggressive fish. I've always wanted to get a jardini and keep em with silver dollars and clown loaches can i not even do that???
