  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

I was just wondering what fish would be better and cooler to keep, a jardini or a silver arowana?and why? :D
First i would like to understand, what is the size of your tank because of some factor which would determine whether a jardini or silver is suitable for you.

Factors
1) Silver is cheaper
2) Jardini is beautiful but very few fishes go along with it.Infact i would recommend none
3) Growth rate per input fish is different and the silver grows bigger and faster with the same input as a jardini. FOr eg 5 feeders of fish per day and your silver would reach on avg 15inches in the first whereas your jardini would reach 8 from around 4 inches for the same input
4) For the silver if you start with a 55 gallon in the first year , you would have to buy a 240 within 2 years.
5) jardini is more susceptible to water changes than the silver when less than 6 inches, which means your silver grows to 6 from 4 in 2 months whereas it takes a jardini 8 months
6) I am sure as a MFK you will not have a single fish in your tank as you would like to research on handling a few varieties in your fish keeping career

As a buyer of arowana , i would consider a silver as of now , before switching over to a jardini for around 4 years atleast

Good luck

wow! I have never imagined that a silver can grow that fast. I think i'll go to the jardini. You told me that they are susceptable to water changes, so what can I do to prevent the changes of the water? and how long can I keep a jardini in a 75Gal tank?

By the way, I have a 4" NTT, an 5" endli and a 5" pbass in my 50gal tank, and I'm planning to transfer them someday to my 250 gal which contain a 17" green aro, 3 4.5" SD, 2 2" spotted SD and 1 approx 15" ornate. Is it possible?or it is already overcrowded? any advise please?

if you have a 250 i'll go for silver. with that stock at hand when you acquire a jardini and introduce it in the community, i'm pretty certain it'll be a recipe for disaster.

What are the dimensions of this 250g? Before recommending adding another aro to this tank consideration should be given whether the tank is big enough or not. Realistically unless your tank has a foot print of 96" x 30" it won't house a full grown silver aro, not to mention the chances of two arowana cohabiting together is pretty slim.

With a jardini, there is a chance it will tear up most everything in that tank. I have also read that green aros can be just a as aggressive

oh, you've gotten me wrong. I'm not planning to add an arowana in my 250Gal, I was just asking if I add my NTT, endli and pbass to my 250Gal which already has a green aro, 3 SD, 2 spotted SD, 1 ornate and 1 flagtail(I forgot to mention him earlier), will it be overpopulated? and my another question is how long can I keep a jardini in a 75Gal tank. sorry if I wasn't clear with what I'm asking.

The dimension of my tank? uhmm... I think it is 5 feet long, the width is 2', and the height is aprox 3.3'.

not the best dimensions for a silver i would be happy with the green;)

In this case I personally wouldn't recommend either, the tank is not long enough to give them enough swimming room before hitting a wall. Particularly with silvers who jump and smash into walls for fear of every little thing...I suppose if you must have one or the other though, then I would go with the jardini who grow slower and ultimately don't get as big.
