Update on my "sideways swimming" jardini. He has been swimming normally for a while now....
But:
My 3.5" jardini somehow tore some of his upper "lip" off on one side. It has separated from the front but is still attached at the rear of the mouth. It sticks out away from the face. It has been this way for a couple of days now and does not seem to be healing up or reattaching. There appears to be a small tuft of fungus on the end of it now.

Question - should I net him and snip the piece off, should I treat with any meds?

He is still eating pellets like normal and acting normally also.

I tried to get pics but he is too small and moves too fast for my camera to capture anything visible.

Burt :)

leave the injury alone.
Fungus on the end is not good.
Check water parameters. Water parameters are essential to be very good.
Water change at least 30%
add 0.3% salt
Maintain stable temperature around 86 during treatment
Water change every 3 days and continue salt treat till fungus is gone.
If the fungus is not going away or getting worse, then you will need an antifungal medication. Malachite green can be used in lower dosage. Just be cautious what you use as aros don't react well to chemical meds.

I wouldnt do anything if hes eating and acting normal. If theres a bit of fungus on the wound, add some salt to the tank. It'll act as a stress reliever and help with the wound at the same time. Waterchange and salt should be the only thing you're doing.

salt sounds like a good remedy ive used it on a few diseases , not sure about the dosage though, i just use a little bit of the crusted salt off of my brothers saltwater tank

Try and use aquarium salt for freshwater not table salt or marine salt. Table salt has iodine and anti caking agents, and marine salt has trace elements required salt water setups.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I am already doing the right things. I do weekly water changes and I have begun adding Kosher salt (right now 4 TBS per 75gal tank).

I will just keep a close eye on him and hope it either heals or falls off....

Burt :)
