I've never had any of my jardini in solo tanks , yes they do kill tankmates and I've gone through a lot of fish trying but certain ones manage to live with them , big cats work well Niger , irwini etc generally spikey ones if they get picked up they get dropped again soon enough .
A big common plec would hold its own there just bone heads
As for cichlids you need to choose something that holds its own and doesn't run scared if they do there as good as dead , I had a jag in with my last 2ft jar for six years if the jardini decided to have an evil day my jag cichlid just defended his pipe holding his territory with that big mouth (this also helps).
I've also had big pacu and a birchir in with that jar few fights with pacu but nothing major , he picked the birchir up and quickly dropped it and never did it again I guess its slime coat tasted nasty to him

you also need to introduce the tankmates from a young age to help with the pecking order of the tank once that's stated everything will mellow , but then don't be tempted to add more fish at this point that just kicks it all off again imo .
Keep the jar away from live feeders this only promotes killer instinct , try get it onto pellets asap so it feeds when tankmates feed and on the same foods , I'm currently at this stage with my new jar that's about 8" he has killed a DAT in a grow out tank at about 6" the DAT was about 5" but is now in with my big cats and birchir , a JD , a fh similar size to the jar and two big silver dollars . so far he's been OK in this tank he has took over the top section and only moves when big cats go near him but the cichlids are holding it together so far so good .
Hope this info helps you a little and I've not bored you to death rambling on , good luck
