hello guys, need some help and advice on my tank with my jar.got the heater set to 83 degrees but my temp strip is reading 75 degrees..is this a good temp for my jar or should i bump up my heateR?
whats temp setting u guys got out there?

a couple things could be wrong:

1) the temp strip might not be working properly..(get a new thermometer)
2) your heater(s) might not be stong enough to heat your tank..(get another heater to compensate...just "bumping up" the heater, could cause it to over heat and malfunction)...what size is the tank? ...the power ratings for the heaters are on the box/instructions..

my tank is usually at a steady 82*F ...some guys like their tank a little hotter or colder it depends on you...i know some guys here in hawaii that never use heaters at all. (its pretty hot here)

im running a 50 gal with a 200 w heater..sorry im a noob=) but when u touch teh water with ur bare hands should the water be cold at all or jsut warm?

the temp strips are total crap the water should be cool not cold at 83f.

at 83 the water should be like pouring water from a water bottle onto your hands. but not like turning on the cold water in your faucet. thats in my experience.

how about a suction cup thermometer instead.

I use one of those digital thermometers where the sensor attaches with a suction cup to the inside glass. It seems to be fairly accurate but don't get the outside part wet; I dropped one in my salt water tank once, good buy thermometer.

outside sticker thermom's are very un accurate. they sometimes read the temp of the glass more then the water inside it.

but even 75 is fine for a jardini. 78 is good. 80 is good. 82 is good.

during the winter, my leichardti tank sometimes sits around 72ish or even a flat 70. no issues at all what so ever. steves outdoor pond drops to below 60 during the winter. he leichardti keeps getting bigger winter after winter.
