last week i picked up a nice still small jardini. The first feeding was 2 days after we was added to the tank. He eats about 2-3 gold fish. Now after that he has not eaten... Anyone have any iddeas on how i can feed him? should i just not feed him for a few more days? and just try feeding him some top water stuff? i have to put in some gold fish in the tank for the pbass and clown they eat there sare.... thanks ppl

I would limit the feeding of feeder fish. But you can try floating pellets, crickets, krill, peel small prawns, earthworms, whitebait. Since its small try not to overfeed & Watch your nitrate level.

were these quarenteened feeder fish.? very important to quarenteen all feeders at least three weeks before feeding because most carry diseases and introduce it to your healthy fish.. i hope this is not the case.. but maybe he ate enough and is still not hungary.. try to raise your own feeders if you intend to feed live to be safe... wish you luck but give it some time...

Ya im just going to wait him out... He can last time time with out food right? What are the signs of starving? The gold fish have been in the tank (feeder tank) for a week or less... So just keep feeding my feeders tell 3 weeks then feed them... sound like a plan... I never breed goldfish before... i dont think they eats Cons. Guppies to small... that about the live breeders? like the red dudes with the black tail and noise?

signs of starving are loss of body confirmation. the stomach on these fish can look sunken pretty quickly if they arent full. i wouldnt worry much if my fish didnt eat for a week. only that it may mean something is wrong.

these fish depending upon size can go months without food. so dying from starvation isnt really on the cards.

as for feeder fish..that good info above. if you can get some locally bred ones they will be more likley fine. dont buy fish that show sick fish in the tank in the shop/ the imported stuff can often have disease from extra handling and i dont really put much trust in quarrantine being that well done but having said that in my experience most of the time a sick goldfish or something isnt going to upset a happy healthy fish in a good tank. depending upon what is wrong with the fish of course. sometimes its gfoldfish specific and only sick from bad conditions like lack of air, its the contagious stuff your concerned about here.
i feed sick and dying fish to my fish and it dont worry them becasue the tank water is great./ but i dont have white spot etc on feeders.

now sometimes a fish wont be interested in chasing down feeder fish.
take for xample i throw in some feeder comets and some koi and they dont get a nudge for a week. then i can feed a yabby every day for 3 days it eats them right away then withhold to see if he will take the fish again.. nothing.. then one night bang,. it eats one.

then the next day it eats a few pellets, which i hadnt given for weeks. and most of the feeder fish are still there. they all behave a bit different and sometimes they just seem lazy to me.

temps probably play the biggest role in feeding behaviour, as long as water is good. if water is bad then that plays a good part too.

Well I guess i can remove the PBASS and put him into a new tank tell i see the jardini eat... or get a cam and watch the fish with i drop feeders in.

The Jardini was keep fine in a nice Fish store Thanks him again.. Ill try some floating stuff tonight. He been looking at sole gold fish at the top of the water but they dont move around alot so he moves pass them

I agree.

His finally eating. YES! I found out why.... His still scared n shy. I got a web cam and set it up next to the tank to get a few of him. Added in a few peace of SMELT an then walked away. (every time i feed them i stay next to the tank) so then today i notice a little bulge which i think is a full gut... thanks everyone for the tips...

Is just smelt ok to feed them? i would try shrimp but it doesnt float. the pellets he only eat one... i just have to keep watching the cam.... :)

Food does not need to float. Better if it does, but does not have to

well he never went after the same food that sank. So for him i guess it is floating.
