sorry if there is another thread like this but can a silver and a jar live together i talked to some guy today and he said if i had 2 silvers i could have one jar. is this true or not

It did NOT work for me. I experimented exactly that combo 1 jar + 2 silvers. Ended up giving away the silvers. I knew about this well-known possibility but I had to try it myself to believe it. However, I was able to keep a pair of bala sharks together with my jar for about 13 months with occasional nipping/chasing but the balas are faster than the jar so things have been fine. Well, that was only until about two weeks ago. The smaller 8" bala was suddenly nipped by the jar and that caused it to jump and hit either the glass top or tank wall and died. I did not witness the incident but only heard some noise in the tank and came to check it out and found the bala upside down and dead in less than a minute. It was in excellent health. Now only one 9" bala and two 9" plecos remain in the tank with the jar.

That's my experience.

my jar has only had a problem with a orino, but it was fine with an ocell and every other fish i have...i haven't put it with my silvers yet due to sizes

I grew up a Jardini with 2 Silver Aros and it didn't work for me. It actually worked for quite some time as I grew the Jardini up to 19" and the 2 Silvers to 22"-24". One of my Silvers broke it's jaw due to a fight and it didn't survive as it couldn't eat. Also to add to it's misery a 30" RTC almost ate it and it ended up dying. I would think it may work if u have a large home for them ie pond/DIY monster tank..

cant risk my silver but thanks for the info

growing my jar in a tank with a silver and a black and a couple other kinds of fish. the only fish i see my jar punks on is my tarpon but besides that, it seems really chill with the rest of the fish.. so far so good but i heard Jars are a ticking time bomb..

ya ive heard the same thing good luck with him though
