After foolishly planting them in the substrate, I removed them along with some driftwood to attach them. Now the leaves are turning transparent and may be growing like that. What do I do?
Also do they need to be attached firmly or is loosely in a crevice(sp.?) fine?

Don't worry, the leaves of Java fern will be transparent at the growth tip. The leaves will fill in with color when they fully mature. They also produce "spores" on the underside of the leaf when conditions are right.

checkout my Java (look close to see the tranparent leaf tips)

holy over-saturation batman!!! lol

placed in crevices is absolutely fine . . . and I love the look of a java fern growing in clumps and mats, adds lots of nice dark greens to the tank . . .

check out this chart, it may help http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=349882

also, java fern shouldnt be buried completely in the substrate. it's rhizome needs to be exposed to the surrounding water..

That chart is the single most helpful tidbit i have gotten on planted tanks.

and that is a beautiful fern O2!
You must have a "wet thumb" lol i hope not literally :naughty:
