I tied my Java Ferns - by their rhizome's - to a nice piece of driftwood hoping for them to eventually root into the wood without the need for a tie. I used fishing line. I clipped the fishing lines today, as 4 months have pasted, but the ferns still quickly floated away from the wood. I was extremely gentle in removing the lines, I'm quite positive I did not unroot the ferns in the removal process. The fern's have grown, and judging by appearance thrived in the aquarium, so why wouldn't they have rooted after that period of time? Any suggestions?

Thank you

Maybe the type of wood affected the rooting. I dont think the javas will root in very hard woods. Im confused on this one though if they thrived in the tank

ur doing it wrong brother. using gel glue is the way to go. its how i attach all my anubias to my driftwood. no ugly strings.

Sorry to jump on your thread but I'm having a similar problem. What kind of gel glue would I be looking for? Brand or place I can get it?

Cyanoacrylate is what he is referring to, also known as Super Glue, or Krazy Glue. If you decide to use it make sure its entirely Cyanoacrylate, with no additional substances except thickening agents. Its aquarium safe, but I chose to use fishing line because if tied correctly and carefully it is nearly invisible.

In any case, my Java Fern have been attached to the wood for 4 months....whether it is with glue, cotton string, fishing line, or whatever I don't see why my roots arn't attaching well.

put some on and press on it for like 30 secs to 1 min and thats it. many aquariest use this method. i know many people use glue to glue their frags and such onto corals and rocks.
