Im gona be starting up a 65gallon planted and would like to knw whats the easiest way to get a java carpet started, i was thinking plant substrate in theheavily planted areas and sand in verylow planted areas, i was thinking to cover all the substrate with java moss along with other plants. Will java moss gro on plant substrate? and will it eventually spread to the sand and grow in it?

It might work? But you'd have to constantly trim it back to prevent the bottom dying

Its like mowing the grass in your tank. There are some other things to carpet with that are
a little easier to use. Mini swords are my favorite.

I knw ill have to do lots of trimming, cuz it grows like wild fire but i was just wondering if it'll still grow and spread as quick on substrate, and would it eventually spread and grow on the sanded parts? if it does ill go with something else i want the sanded areas to be a lil more open and bare, i have a drawing of what im gona do so i have a plan

Since it won't grow roots, but rather possibly crawl across the surface, i'm going to say if it works, it should in theory also crawl onto the sand area as well?

I think a lot of the carpet species tend to need a fair amount if light... Although hair grass might work?

And yeah, just added a Co2 system recently so waiting for everything to grow in...

Dwarf baby tears or HC, is a impossible to get growing without Co2 and decent light...
