Hey guys, I'm trying to make a small carpet of java moss in my 10 gallon planted tank, so I got some Java Moss and some plastic canvas sheets.

The issue is, i already placed it in my tank and i don't want to re-arrange my plants to cut bigger holes in the canvas... but *****do you think the canvas holes are big enough for the java moss to grow through?? It's about the same size as the picture.******

(This picture is from http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168440
but I am borrowing his idea. )

I'm hoping to do something similar. I've been letting my 10g fill up with java moss so I can create a carpet for my 65g. I also bought some of this plastic mesh in preparation, but I too wonder if the holes are big enough to allow a thick carpet to grow?

Not to discourage you efforts, but it is a good idea to use the mesh if you are doing a background. In my previous experiences I have tried the plastic mesh as a floor cover, it grew well but lacked the cool factor (looking natural or real). I best results I've had is when I covered some small rocks with the moss, then covered that with some netting material, preferably a dark colored netting material. I got some netting from walmart for about $1 for a square yard. It grew evenly and took a few weeks but it ended up looking really good.

My two cents :)

Keep us updated ;)

Yes, your mesh should work well, java moss's roots arent very big so it wont have a problem growing in something sililar to the picture.
