hey i seen some moss balls in our lfs and i am wondering wether i need my light for that gear? i hear its quickly grown in low light. my tanks next to a window. would that be sufficient? would it grow? info?

ive put a moss ball in a small pond outisde and it did great until winter came and it died, but just the MI sunlight kept it alive for a few months. Java Moss grows anywhere, even when u dont want it too

it is in the lfs on floating balls and is labaled java moss balls. that correct?

Petco is now selling 'moss balls' made of java moss. they are floating balls of java moss with fishing line tide to a lead weight. i got one a week ago. pretty neat looking. regular lighting will do. if you really want it to grow, do a few less water changes. too clean of a tank and it will never grow.

That should work fine. I grew java moss in gold fish bowl next to a normal desk light.

Real marimo or moss balls look like

if i was to put one of those marimo balls on my driftwood, would it eventually spread out?

Yeah but it's a very slow grower. The balls are formed by pieces of an algae mat that's been broken off and tumbled around, so cutting one open and tying it down like Java moss is just reversing the process.

They sell them here for about 10-15$ each.. IMO they r not worth paying that much..when u can get a lot more java moss in less than 2$..
