We have spotted eggs in the mouth of one of our JF. He isn't carrying them around all the time, sets them down in his burrow and will bring them up from time to time and then back down again. I thought they held them full time. Wonder if I have one of those dead beat dads.

Anyway, I'm not interested in them becoming fish food...we want to try and save as many as possible. I've only found one link out there specifically about this, but it wasn't that detailed. Has anyone here done this and can recommend a website or items to purchase?

I was thinking a HOB Refugium on my sump to start. Live rotifiers gets mentioned a lot for food...baby brine shrimp too? Any help would be appreciated...think I have about a week.

Wow congrats that's awesome. I personally like the yellow head jaw fish had one many years ago.

Yes a refugium would definitely help supply food for tiny fry at the beginning stage. Definitely would have brine hatcheries on hand. I personally like the Hobby Brine Shrimp hatchery it doesn't require air or light.

Hello

Your Jawfish isn't holding its eggs all the time, which is unusual. To save the eggs and raise the fry, set up a breeding environment like a Hang-On-Back refugium or a partitioned section in your sump. Use a breeding box to protect the eggs. Feed the fry live rotifers at first, then baby brine shrimp as they grow. Equip your setup with an air stone and pump for oxygenation, and use fine mesh netting to keep the fry safe. For more advice, check aquarium forums like Reef Central.
