About 5 days ago, I moved some of my fish around. My small FH and Red Terror immediately went at it, locking their mouths and thrashing about. The FH put up a good fight, ended up leaving with its tail tucked. Well the RT let go, and when the FH let go, I noticed the FH mouth was stuck open, kinda still in fight mode. . .So 5 days have gone by and his mouth is still stuck open. He seems to eat fine, it also looks like he's moving his mouth a LITTLE more but still can't close his mouth. His problem looks like it's with his upper mouth. Do you guys think this will correct itself? I'm guessing something didn't settle right in his mouth after the fight, I've been tempted to net him out and massage his mouth a little, what do you guys think??

it sounds like his jaw is dislocated. i dont know how to reset a fish jaw, but in humans you take both hands hooking the four fingers under the jawline, and put the thumbs in the mouth on the bottom jaw behind the last teeth and manipulate it until it pops again..

can you post a pic of him here? if i were you, i would be wanting to take him out and feel the jaw if it doesnt self correct in the next few days..you may be able to feel if the jaw bone (the bottom one-what in humans is called the "mandible" is too far forward, or if its slid back overlaping the back part..

post a pic, maybe we can help..

how big is he?

Hey Mel! I knew people would want to see a picture, I don't have a camera, let alone the know how to post a pic. I think you're right, I'm gonna wait 2 more days, if I see no improvement, I'll net the little guy out, (he's only about 2.5") and take a closer look. It seems his problem is in the upper mouth though. I'll keep you posted. Thanks

how's he looking today? any better?

I had a Big JK Flowerhorn get Lockjaw for 5 days. It eventually went back. It's sorta the luck of the draw if it goes back or not. Some people have successfully wiggled them back into place, but thats sketchy.

Yea, I think my FH will be allright. Soon after I posted, my FHs healing seem to go into overdrive. I've had a lot of time to watch him, and I noticed him trying to yawn and pick around for food. His mouth closes almost completely and has about 75% of his mouth movement back. I'm glad I didn't net him out, I probably would of of just stressed him out.. Thanks guys
