i recently (about six hours ago) added my 4 inch male con to my 55 gallon which has a female juvenile dempsey.. now he is chasing her around :( he isnt biting her or flaring at her but she is scared to death :( i have had him in a 20 gallon for about a month so she could get established and grow a bit but i guess it didnt work.. what should i do? i really want them together in the tank since its my only large tank and i have grown very fond of them both! please any ideas would be great, i have even thought of maybe a tank divider??? oh and the male con was a rescue from being in a tank with a white male con that my lfs store thought was female.. he almost took his whole tail off before i bought him and grew it back.. plus he cannot see well AT ALL and has been stunted.. (just a bit of history about him if that helps) :help2:

Well convicts are not nice to begin with, I would get some dither fish if I were you.

good idea! but they would have to be kinda big since he cant see for **** :/ he has a hard time seeing food.. ugh this is awful :'(

ok i will get some asap.. what should i get? this is my first time needing them (just been lucky so far) as long as the dempsey cant eat them of course :/

Tiger barbs and silver dollars are commonly used. Both are fast and wide bodied. I've also heard of people using danios which are also very fast however because of their slender, torpedo shaped bodies, I'd assume that they would be easier to munch down. Also, making sure that you have multiple sight breaks help. Good luck. I wish you the best.

lol ok i had to look up sight breaks and that is a BIG help.. one question umm i have a lone pink tetra that is named Killer (have had her about a year) also in the tank with them.. her name prolly explains why she is not a worry with the big ones, but could dither fish cause her any problems? (yes i know its weird but fish have VERY strange and different personalities so work with me lmao) plus my daughter would FREAK for its her fish :P

Add more of your pink tetras. Should make good dithers as well as making your lonely tetra happier. I would try a divider if the dithers dont work out.
