JD and Tiger Oscar

I have an issue. I have (as the title states) a tiger oscar and JD juvies. They are about 3 to 4 inches (oscar a lil bit larger than the JD.

The JD has become increasingly agressive. So much that he has forced the poor oscar to the left side of the tank. The oscar just look miserable now... Any advice on this? I am thinking I am ganna have to get rid of the JD... Would a Flowerhorn be a better fit?

How bigs the tank? i keep a few Severums with my Albino oscar with no problem

Flowerhorns IMO are more aggressive then a JD . You're best bet will be to get something about half the size of the Oscar so he won't be food and won't beat up on your Oscar (hopefully)

I've heard smaller cichlids like the convict if you give him enough hiding places and a big enough tank he may not bother the Oscar

I say get rid of the jd instead of the oscar. If it is causing a problem with the oscar then it will cause a problem with anything else.

sorry read your post wrong. I think it will be a hit or miss with tank mates. I have a convict that will kill anything I put in the tank, even an oscar three times its size, but I have also had convicts that work great in comunities. I think this gonna hold true with alot of cichlids and you will just need to keep trying until you find a good match.

Ive had several jd and oscars together with no issues but it is hit an miss..IME jd's will need to be the boss of the tank no matter what tankmates you have.You could try convicts or fm's just as long as whatever you get is bigger than oscars mouth.

How big is the tank? If the tanks is to small, that could be part of the reason for the increase of aggression. If the tank is big enough, then chocolate cichlid would be a good choice in that they have similiar personalities of the oscar.

I had an Oscar and a JD and I had no trouble at all. If anything my Oscar was the boss. He bullied everything in my tank so I got rid of him. Like everyone else said, it's a hit or miss. Now that my oscars gone the JD is the boss.
