Soooo I bought a pictus catfish about 5 hours ago, And it's no where to be found. I have a JD, a danio, and a firemouth. My JD is not BLOATED looks like a barrel with fins, acting lathargic, and he's usually very active. My question is it possible he ate my catfish.... The jd is maybe 1.5 inches. Idk the catfish was proably the same. I know my firemouth didn't do it and the danio is a dummy and doesnt do anything, so I may have answered my own question or mystery but what do you guys think?

If it did eat your Pictus, hope it didn't eat the front part because Pictus's pelvic fins are very hard and can rupture internal organs. I have heard many horror stories of big fish like Oscars eating them and dying shortly afterward.

There's no way the JD ate the pictus... I have a 6 inch synodontis cat which I swear we cant find unless we take everything out of the tank and shake it really good. Catfish are FANTASTIC hiders. I've seen Kirby (our cat) cram herself into the weirdest places that you'd never thought she could fit in the first place. I wouldnt worry about it, the only time I actually get to see our cat is when she wanders out and eats at night, we bought moonlights so we could observe her better.

That's because Synodontis cats (most of them) just like Pictus are schooling catfish that prefer to be in groups of at least a few individuals. Housed individually all they do is hide 90% of the time.

yeah i will never think a fish is eaten again after some cases i have had. On multiple occasions I have dropped in some sort of catfish or other fish and I go to see how they are doing and BOOM they are no where to be found! Then for one example I dropped in on january 3rd i think (some date in the first week) one 2" pleco and I didnt see it anywhere so i assumed it was eaten then one day around early march, I look on my glass and I see this HUGE 6" pleco eating algae on the glass! After this occuring multiple times I dont assume a fish dead unless I have checked EVERY spot! which is extremely hard to do in my very highly decorated tanks. So I just assume every new fish is usually around alive but just hiding. Also there is no way that jd could have eaten a pictus cat! I have a 3.5" VERY aggressive jd and he is living still with multiple rosey red minnows and the only fish I have thats eating them is my 3" oscar as he has a mouth half as big as his head! So there is no way that happened!

Yeah I ended up loosing the catfish a week ago due to an ick outbreak. Thank god it was my only loss.
