I am going to, once again, attempt to breed my Jack Dempsey cichlids. This will be the third female I have tried, the first two got beat up by the male. This female is a little bit thicker and stockier so hopefully she can stand her ground and not get kicked around. I will be trying to breed them in my 85 gallon aquarium. The current stock in my 85 is my 6.5 inch male JD, 6 inch Midevil, 3 inch GT, 2.5 inch JD, 4 inch pleco, and my 2.5 inch convict pair. I am wondering if the presence of the other fish was what caused them not to breed the last times I tried. Would it be safe for me to put all the other fish in my 30 gallon aquarium with my baby turtle and 2 inch Jag? This way th JDs get the whole tank to themselves to get down to business. The tank is around 80 degrees and has plenty of oxygen, lots of flat surfaces to lay eggs on, It is well established and my parameters are perfect. I am going to quarentine the female in the 30 gallon tank to calm her down from the trip and to try to raise her confidence a bit. I a planning on throwing in a flower pot just to give another place to lay. and lastly, how common are blue gene JDs? Would it be a possibility that I out of sheer chance have 2 blue gene JDs and could have some EBJD fry? Its just a thought and I know I probably don't have them, but what if I do? haha I really hope it works this time! I will Keep posting on this thread for updates and pictures!
