You may recall me saying this in my previous thread: need ideas for what to do with my 55 gal long. But the threads almost dead now and no ones replied so here goes: i got a gt and a JD, they seemed to get along very well before, they were sharing food and territories but my baby GT has gone MAD now, she chases my baby JD around all day, what could be causing this sudden spike in agression? the JD doesn't fight back even though he fought back once and beat the GT, he still very rarely fights back, WHAT THE HECK? i'm reluctant do divide them, i thought i might get hybrid GTs and JDs one day (i think the GT is a female and the JD is a male, but it's hard to tell at this size because they are 2'' long. PLEASE HELP ME if i dont get help i'm gonna have to divide them and my 66 gal is gonna become two 33 gals

Take both fish out, completely rearrange the tank, and introduce the JD first. (If you have a cycled qt tank you could leave the GT there for a day). Cross fingers and add GT*. This might work.

*Some would suggest adding dither fish too, but you might be overstocked. You could do giant danios. They might become snacks.

x2 ....I'll go even farther... get a 10 gallon from your local fish store(if you don't have qt. tank) and quarantine the gt for a few days , until the jd gets acclimated ...you can use the 10 gallon in the future as a q./hospital tank ,so it wont go to waste...

I like the rearranging the take idea with no fish in it, then introducing the jack Dempsey. This will allow it to establish his territory within the tank. and he will own the tank so to speak. Then the other fish will be an intruder in the JDs territory and JD will be more inclined to fight back take dominance again. Besides, JDs grow quite a bit faster the GTs, so it will most likely be dominant sooner or later.

sorry, my internets been down for a few days so i haven't seen the great ideas you guys posted, things seem to be settling down, but i'll get the 10 gallon and if they start to get nasty again ill take the GT out, i've been trying to minimize the reason to go to each other's territory by giving them their own food in each side of the tank.

cichlid agression seems to come in waves as they grow. fine one day snapped the next. until they are full grown its hard to say how their personalities will be and if theres any chance of them getti g along. yoj are definately taking the right steps, id always recomend a way to seperate cichlids as a safe fallback
