i just got a new jack dempsy and its not eating i was wondering what to feed them and why its not eating. hes only been in the tank about a day now so i was wondering if that has something to do with it

Give it a few days to settle down. Then depending on size any cichlid pellet, frozen food or live will probably be taken. My JD will eat almost anything but is very timid and will be the last one out to eat. Good luck with yours and have a little patience.

just let it get used to the tank. usually when i add fish in, they usually dont feed until a day or two after since they are hungry ;)

Good luck with jds! I love em

ok i hope he will be fine but what do you feed yours when there little like 3''

Frozen blood worms, krill, pellets, minnows, anything small enough to fit into its mouth.

ok good well he ate today he gobbled down some blood worms but i wonder what kind of food will bring out his colors i know blood worms will but will any thing else

i have had problems with this too, but mine is a lil differnt, i have tried 4 different types of crumbles and floating pellets for my chiclids and they dont seem to like it. i have tried hikari <sp gold, the red and green bag, and i have tried chilid attack, and i have wardens slow sinking crumbles. it seems like mine are picky and only like the wardens. i have tried to get them to eat the hikari floating stuff and they ont like it at all... but they like blood worms a lot.. LOL
