Well isn't it the way? Once you finally get everything calm and settled some new problem arises. I have grown a Nile Tilapia from a tiny 1 inch together with a slightly larger JD. Time passes and now the Tilapia is a fair bit larger than the JD and was still 2nd in command. Well within a few hours the position of power has shifted and two fish which survived together for years are not getting along. My JD is stressed to the max and went from fine this morning to pretty rough. What do you think? Keep the JD or the Tilapia? Blue Nile Tilapia are not uncommon in food fish shops but kinda unique for a pet. The JD is far more attractive but really quite common. I'm kinda leaning towards the JD but I dunno for sure so I thought I would see what the general consensus is amongst other hobbyists. What would you keep? They are both my pets so it is hard to let either go.

My rule of thumb for these sorts of situations is, if the larger fish of the past(Your JD for example) did not bother the smaller fish but now the smaller fish has grown to start beating up the larger fish, I would keep the peaceful one. I'm not sure what other fish you have in your tank, but if the Tilapia is willing to beat up the JD, whats stopping it from being a complete brute to everything else in the tank?

You have better chances to rehome a JD than a tilapia.

I made my own divider last night rather quickly but it is working. It would need to be fine tuned though. Only one other fish in the tank and it's a catfish that generally stays under some wood but recently the tilapia has started to nip at it as well. Hmmmmm.....I think I know what needs to be done..........I gotta get another tank. Ha ha ha!

It is amazing how it can all change in one day. If you use a divider for a while and eventually take it out does the position of dominance ever change or this pretty much it?
