I've got two Jack Dempseys that I got as rescues maybe three months ago. (Both from separate homes) I do believe I have a pair, but I'm not sure. It looks like the larger is the female, but need opinions on that.

And with that being said, any tips on trying to get them to breed? lol, they follow each other around the tank, the tank is about 80 degrees F, and it is a 55-Gallon with three Parrots and a Convict. The two main things it sounds like is to put a piece of slate in the tank, and do a big water change. How big of a water change? And with cooler water?
Any breeding tips, other than "Get a larger tank." would be appreciated. :D

Well in terms of their sex......They both look like males with all the spangles all over there bodies....usually the females have less spangles on their bodies but have blue patches on there gill plates. The one in the back in the 2nd pic has some blue on the gill plates but they are not patches and also it has a lot of beautiful blue on its body so its hard to say that it is a female. The Jack in the last pic is definitely a male. Put a clean smooth piece of slate on one side of the tank do a 50% water change and wait to see what happens.....good luck

Maybe it's just one manly female. :D
lol, anyway, thanks for the info, guess I'll try and put a piece of slate in and do a WC, and see what happens then. :nilly:

Now I'm lost. I put a mirror on the end of the tank, and the JD in the first pic(Suspected female) attacked its reflection, and not the one in the third picture (Suspected male). So, maybe the one that I thought was a female is a male, and the one I thought was a male is a female???:nilly:
