why does my jd get real dark sometimes. is it good or bad

I am pretty shore they get darker in color when they are stressed. All of my fish show this when they are stressed. I have also read somewhere that they do it when they are stressed.

Not always true.
When they are in a fight they turn dark. When they are in a 'bad' mood they will turn dark and yes they will turn dark^^ if they are stressed.

its weird tho cause he looks so awesome when hes dark and his blue speckles show more and the red on his top fins show better

turning Dark is not a sign of stress for JD's, it's the opposite. When a JD is stressed it will be pale in colour (NOT) dark.

Breeding, aggression, dark tank, sick, bored, etc. Many reasons why a fish might darken.
