I was to also understand apparently the speckling form a "triangle" on the gill plate on females as well.....u heard of this?

Exactly. Every JD I've ever owned with the green "beard" has been female.

Jack demspeys are typically obviously female or male. In my experience with them, they can be sexed really young.
