ima have a 37 gallon with a jd an i was wondering if i should add some dither's or would the jd just eat them? an if so what fish could i get that he couldnt eat.

They would probably be fine if they can't fit in its mouth, but the JD will outgrow the tank in a year or less.

Giant Danio's are great dithers, they're fast and too big to really fit in the mouth. I'd say in 5-8 months you'd want to look into a much bigger tank though. About a 75 gallon. Dempsey's aren't an overly aggressive fish as a rule, but cramped they get nasty as will most larger cichlids. You also want to make sure you have more than adequate filtration too.

yeah, the two posts above are on the right track . . . I would advise you to hold off on dithers until you upgrade to a larger tank, and in the meantime you can research which fish you'd like for dithers
