Currently I have a 6" GT and a 7.5" costa rican red head midas in a 130 gallon. (both are males). They get on great. The midas is boss, the GT accepts that, and life is sweet. The Midas seems like quite a calm but firm chap for his species.
I also have a 3" flowerhorn in there who is creating chaos. He wants to own the tank, and has the ego to perhaps pull it off. Basically, he is very disruptive and I cannot see the midas and the FH living together long term. Once the FH gets big enough for the midas to take him seriously, he will just kill him I'm sure.
So the FH will be going, but I would like a replacement fish. I know the GT and midas will accept a small fish to grow on with them, as I successfully put in a juvie Vieja with them, and the big boys were very happy with it. However the little FH went nuts, so I had to get rid of the Vieja.

So I'm looking for suggestions for a replacement fish for the FH. Was thinking of a small male JD to grow on with them. Am I mad thinking this could work ? maybe a couple of a smaller species like nics or sajica might be more workable in the long term.

I know most people find a midas in a 130 would probably not tolerate anything else long term, but my guy just seems very amenable, so long as others stay out of his "spot".
Any thoughts ?

I had considered dithers such as giant danios or SD's, but the thought just bores me. I'd far rather get another cichlid or two.

I would try it and see mate, maybe add the JD and some dithers at teh same time, or use a separator for a few weeks?

There is obvious pit falls, like causing disharmony, but if you really want it, its worth the risk.
