How long can the fry be kept with their parents for? This is the first time I have had JD's. I have had them 2 weeks and they have bred already and the fry are now 6 days old and free swimming. I breed convicts for feeders for my larger fish and move the fry into a growout tank to get a little size onto them as the parents tank is only small. But the JD's tank is a 4foot tank and big enough for the fry to grow. Do the fry get to a certain size before the parents get nasty and decide to eat them??

I feel they are too good of a fish to use as feeders and hope to be able to get rid of them in other ways.

cool, thanx for that website. Very useful info. I have got at the moment over 1000 convict fry lol I am short of tanks and thinking I need to just get a Large plastic storage container for a growout tank LOL

I am still tring to figure it out. I know I did a water change today and my JD's jumped back to life and my Red Devils are another step closer to laying eggs I think I just need to throw flower pots in to really set them off

I wasn't even planning on breeding mine just yet, I had a male GT and male JD, but my GT was being to nasty towards my JD and someone on here was kind enoguh to offer me a female JD to try and stop a bit of the agro. It did after a few days and then I noticed them laying eggs. I was stoked. But was then stuck as to what to do with my fish in the tank LOL

But I am sooo happy that I have fry now too
