So im thinkin of investing in a second 55. Can I put a pair of JD's in a 55 gallon. I was thinking of adding a convict and some large teras as dithers.

yes you can a 55 is adequate just no other cichlids, not even the con cause he will get beat up, and for dithers you could do some of the larger tetras and barbs, giant danios, tiger/green barbs, buenos aires tetras...

ive got a red devil and a jd together in a 55 and a giant danio works great as a dither..

okay dats fine. Jd's are carnivores right? so maybe a diet of frozen and live food would be good. ANd cichlid pellets as a staple? I like to keep fish from the same general area so i'll probably use buenos aires tetras. Can I add a pleco and catfish or is that out of the question?

if you are doing live i suggest some pan worms. i have a breeding pair in my 120 that will go in a 75 here in a bit. i feed mine krill pellets, panworms, and bloodworms. they won't touch anything else.

never mind on the royal forgot about size... a leopard pleco is really cool looking and only get about 6 inches. commons will quickly outgrow a 55

Oh I know to stay away from commons. I mostly do bristlenose. Im thinking of a pictus cat. I know I'll need plenty of caves and I'll probably use sand or natural gravel as a substrate.

ya that is perfect a couple of bristle noses and a group if pictus cats. That would be sweet.
