hey does anyone know a definite way to distinguish between a male and female JD? i have two JD's when i got them they were about 1" one was a slight larger but seems to grow at a much faster rate and more aggressive then the other one. any thoughts?

Are the ones in your avatar the ones you are asking about? If so the one in the back is female and the closest is a male. Look at the color on there gill plate and jaw. Females have blue blotches and males do not.

those aren't my JD's in the Avatar, i'll try and get some pics up soon.

if i have a male and female when can i expect them to breed? i seen ones that were some 3" at the pet store who bred. is that about when i should expect?

Males are larger and stockier looking and have little to no blue on their lower gill plates. Females will be more torpedo shaped, smaller and will have many more blue spots and blotches of spots on their lower gill plate....
thanx for the picture explanation!!! i know what to look for know.

Mine bred at 2.5", if conditions are right and they form a strong pair then they will breed, be warned though because mine spawned and continued to spawn at such a young age this stunted their growth as well as slowing it down.
