According to the owner's manual that came with my dct 15000 the pump should shut off after 2 minutes of no water. I let mine run for over 3 minutes and it did not shut off. Is this a defect or is it still sensing water because there is still water in the return line? Does anyone know how the sensor works, is it actually detecting water or is it detecting for heat build up?

My dct15000 shuts off soon after it starts sucking air, never timed it and has only happened once and was using it to empty my tank

Thanks for the responses, it was definitely sucking air. I will disconnect it and take a closer look at it. I was hoping that since the manual also states not to operate over 95F that it was tripped by getting hot. The tank is in the setup phase and not in use so better to get it straightened out now.

I removed the pump and ran it completely dry. It ran for approximately 2 minutes and stopped. It then started up again and stopped a couple of times until it stopped and the controller leds began flashing. I am more or less convinced that it is a thermal sensor and it probably just was not getting hot enough when I checked it out installed, or I just did not give it enough time to cycle off. I was totally amazed by how quiet it was when disconnected from the plumbing, the only way I knew it was running was the air being blown out of the return.
