In the caiman den
For the pump you can Tee off the line and have two lines go to two tanks and have them flow back to the sump.

Never made the PVC over flow but they seem to work well, not sure if there is anything different about them when using it on a tub. Bulkhead fitting is a safier way to go since it will over flow out unless clogged. Where as the pvc over flow can stop working if it sucks air.

I think there is a way to do a pvc overflow for your ponds, but I'd worry that the caiman might knock them loose.

any diagrams or thread links?

ps thanks conner. this thread has been an epic flop.

Seemed like a good idea at the time....

:p

How sloped are the sides of the ponds, or are they pretty much vertical?

I really think your best option is bulkheads. A pvc overflow is going to be a pain to install, a pain to get running, and will have to be restarted every time the power goes out, you want to do a w/c, etc. If you just do a bulkhead, then it will always restart automatically. And with the tanks being plastic, it will be super easy to drill them. I'm telling you, spend ~$20 on bulkheads from www.glass-holes.com, or make your own from HD/Lowes, and you'll never have to worry about it again.

And with the bulkheads, it will be easy enough to run both ponds to the same sump, and you can either use 1 large pump, split to go to both ponds, or you can use 2 smaller pumps, one for each pond.

And as far as pumps go, I love my Quiet one 4000's...

Or you could go for an ebay pump.:

I'm using the Beckett 3,500gph pump to run my outdoor pond. Haven't had any problems with it, and its been running continuously for almost a year now. And you saw how muddy my pond was at one time...

seems good pump. should do the job well. so it does work well?

Works great. You need 1.5" (I think) hose and bulkhead to run it, if you're talking about the beckett.

I think the quiet ones can use 3/4" or 1" hose.

what size bulkhead would i need? (quiet one) id be running 2 into the same sump and pumping from there, single pump spilt out to 2 out puts

you'd need a 1" bulkhead and hose for the return line (from the pump to the pond). You'd want to use 1.5-2" bulkheads and hose/pipe for the drain line (from the ponds to the sump). If you order the bulkheads, you may want to get the screens that go with them, to keep any fish, mulch, or caiman tails from getting sucked into the drain.
