:( I am sadden.

My second largest salamander died... found him buried in the coco-fibre when I was spreading my dewworms around to give the salamanders a chance to hunt them. Goodbye Jenner... you were always the most aggressive feeder.

I only had him for like 3 months too... and he was my favourite of the bunch. When I first saw him, I thought he was the smallest one (Jonathan) that wouldn't eat anything but crickets... but after looking at the remaining four, it wasn't it. If anyone remember him... he is one of the salamanders I brought to the UA Herps symposium. Of course, I doubt anyone from MFK lives in Edmonton.

I am depressed now... I might take a day off from classes tomorrow. :(

I apologize for the crappy picture, he is top-most right one underneath two salamanders.

tiger salamanders

sorry for your loss man

Unfortunately, no they are not captive-bred; they came from a guy who run a rescue center for them, but he couldn't take on anymore. Those salamanders were probably bought as fishbaits then they escaped and people found them in garage, keep them on gravel, kept them in the same room with other reptiles, and they are not even the same species or subspecies (depending on which taxonomy you follow) as our native Blotched Tiger Salamander. So... because of their inital crappy care and exposure to other reptiles, the guy couldn't re-release them.

Terrestrial salamanders are hard to breed in captivity. I think in order to breed them you need a pond of a certain depth, and the only guy that was successful at breeding Tiger Salamanders was in Germany with his big greenhouse.

Man, I feel crappy.

And for size, he was a good 9"-10".

I know how you feel. My big salamander died a few years back and I felt horrible. Sorry for the loss.

Depending on the species of Tiger Salamanders. Some like the Eastern's are classified as Endangered, while others like the California is Vulnerable.

I think all of my Tiger Salmanders are the Barred Tigers (A. mavortium). The problem is I don't know what subspecies they are all are since some might be hybrids or intergrades.
