As some of you know, a lot of people are converting the Fluval EDGE into a nano reef tank and I figured it would be a great tank to start my first saltwater tank. I got the tank over a month ago and finally got a chance to fill it up this week. The biggest problem with this tank is the stock lights are terrible to say the least. Many people swap em out with different bulbs but they fall victim to salt creep very quickly so I found a guy on manhattanreefs.com who builds custom LED setups just for this tank and wow is it amazing!

My current build consists of...
-Fluval EDGE tank
-Wingo's LED savior lighting
-K nano 240GPH powerhead
-Coralife digital thermometer
-Rena 50w heater (hidden in filter)
-7 pounds live rock/10 pounds live sand

I plan on keeping 1 or 2 clown fish, a couple shrimp/crabs, and maybe another small fish. Being that this is my first saltwater tank (I'm a freshwater ray keeper) I wanna stick with beginner corals that are more forgiving for n00bs like me. I'd like to get some zoas, frogspawn, xenias etc but well see where things go...

Hard to tell due to the poor quality of my Blackberry camera but I put the Rena 50w heater in the filter by removing the bottom piece that is used as a filter intake.

first day after filling her up! everytime the tank cleared up I would play around with the aquascaping of the tank so it would cloud the water again but I think I finally got a scape going that I'm content with.

I figured out a way to modify my light bar bracket to raise the LED light I bought. By doing this I could raise the water level of the tank and give the light more coverage of the tank and it also improved the shimmer effect of the light significantly. I just cut the bottom bracket as you can see in the 2nd and 3rd picture.

and FINALLYYYY some pictures of the tank tonight (1/24/12) with the moonlights on. When I turn on the white LED the pictures come out horrible. The tank looks 10x better in person I'll try and get a real camera for better quality pictures...

Nice LED upgrade. That thing is bright! Can't wait to see how this turns out

Looks great.

You might want to reconsider some of your livestock, though; you're going to want fewer fishes and more invertebrates. One clown fish, let alone two, is going to be a bit much once it reaches its adult size, especially with all the other critters in there. Think gobies for this one; for example, you could get one of the ones that forms a symbiotic relationship with a snapping shrimp. As for the invertebrates, you'll want a decent number of dwarf blue leg hermit crabs as well as a smaller species of snail; those two groups form your clean-up crew and will help to keep algae and detritus to a bare minimum.

gonna pick up a little cleaner crew tomorrow (snails/shrimp/crabs). I also found a tiny starfish on my glass today I guess it hitch hiked on the live rock last week :)
