jerk male convict

get another female. you might go threw a couple since they are picky like people when it comes to choosing mates. we got our large breeding pair but it took us 4 trys since the female kept killing the males.

Borrow a few spare convicts, or look into something fast enough to keep their attention but run away in time. When it's just a pair, they can put a real beating on each other. I've had 2-3 females shredded in a similar fashion. Give the dominant fish something else to chase, it helps spreads out the tension.

In the mean time, seperating them, reorganizing the tank, using a divider, etc.

chaser fish is what i call em.... giant danios work great. fast and elusive... but will stay away from the fry b/c of the parents..

Add dither fish as mentioned previously or even add a larger single cichlid to difuss the attention toward the mate and turn the aggression to the larger cichlid

I know it's late, but going to say negative on single larger. The only thing as irritable as convicts is another convict, short bottling up your angry girlfriend and creating a fish out of her. I've had several cichlids weighing in 3-8x larger get harassed to the point of needing to be moved. (Even the ones that could eat them... )

Danios have worked out very well for me. (I've used longfins vs giants for stocking concerns / what I've had on hand) They're happy even when restricted to the top of the tank, and I've had 3 pairs of convicts with fry completely ignore them to date.
