im gonna fish the jeresey shore literally the beach, what could i catch here and what setup should i use,i think the waves wouldent let artificial lures work.so im thinking a peice of shrimp or fish and a weight to make it not be effected by the waves.one more thing, would a new york fishing licences work in new jersey.
thanks:)

As far as i know, there is no need for a Jersey license in sw, but check their state websites. You can catch bluefish, stripers, fluke, drum, searobins, dogfish, and plenty of other stuff from the beach.

Bait will be your best best for searching, but plugs and tins will do well if you find the fish. Fluke love a bucktail with a strip of squid.

Call a local bait shop for info, and look on the web for surf fishing, I'm sure you will find tons of great info.

you don't need a license for salt water fishing. if you are fishing off the beach get yourself a surf rod. some heavy weights atleast 8 ounces. use clam or bunker for bait.
blue fish and striped bass usually hit pretty good.

if you are looking to fish from the shore some good spots include north beach at sandy hook and also all of the inlets can produce fish at a given time. I would use a 8-9' heavy spinning rod rated for at least 15-30 pound line. If you want to use lures they can be very productive if worked correctly. Good lures include bucktails, diamond jigs, bombers, and poppers. For lures something rated for 1-3 oz will work. If you are fishing bait I would get something rated to 8oz. Preferred bait would be FRESH bunker chunks or FRESH clam for targeting stripers and blues. Use a 3' 30-50# flurocarbon leader tied to a 10/0 gamakatsu octopus hook and use a fishfinder rig. Ask the guy at the tackle shop how to rig it up. For fluke use a 3' 20# leader tied on a high low rig about 18" above the sinker. Use a 3/0 hook baited with squid and spearing. Cast out and every 30 seconds or so reel in about 2 feet of line. Fluke usually dont take the bait right away and give it 4-5 seconds before you set the hook.

Good luck
