I took in a random african cichlid from my sisters tank over the weekend, not sure of its exact type but I believe its in the Melanochromis family. This dude is about 3.5" and she said it was an "a--hole fish" and she wanted it gone. I told her I would take him and introduce him to some fish that wont take his BS and he will learn to behave....tried him in 3 of my tanks, finally settled on my jack tank, but here are the results.

A vs 4.5" Nicaragua = Nicaragua losses and flees
A vs 4.5" Green Terror = Green Terror losses and flees
A vs 2" Fire Mouth = Firemouth Flares and chases A, Firemouth wins
A vs 6" Sydontis Eupterus = Tornado Spin battle, Sydontis the winner. I'm actually pretty sure the Sydontis was the aggressor hear
A vs 3.5" Chocolate Cichlid = Chocolate losses and flees
A vs 2" Cuban Cichlid = Tornado Spin Battle, Cuban looses and flees
A vs 6" ABK = Head to Head Stand off, ABK looses and flees
A vs 7" Oscar = Strangely they seem to be BFF's.
A vs 5.5" Female Jack = Tornado Spin Battle, 8" male Jack came to protect his lady, A shat himself and fled.
A vs 8" Male Jack = The A knows better.

Unbotherd fish (so far) 4" Surinamensis, 4" Striped Raphael Cat, 8" Lima Shovelnose cat, 6" BGK and 4 6-7" Tinfoil Barbs. Seems to me he was able to distinguish between cichlids and non-cichlids even though they are from the other side of the world.

I know most A's are really aggressive, but I can't believe the balls of this fish challenging almost every fish as soon as it was added to the tanks. Its dark blue with horizontal stripes down its body, I believe its a male because it seems to have a slight hump head, I tried looking it up but so many of the fish in the Melanochromis family look alike. Any opinions on what type it is with this extreme aggression.

I'm kinda diggin this badass little devil.

hahah i had a ob peacock that was the same way, Tried everytank in my house and he made the rounds of a few members houses as well

I'll try to get one tonight, but the thing has ADHD and never stops swimming, and I mean swimming fast.

Sounds like a male Auratus to me... I had a pair... I couldn't keep them with anything.. they would kill any fish includeing plecos I put in the tank. Very cool breeding behavior though.

Mbunas don't mix well with others.

As for Oscars, I have one Mbuna in my CA/SA tank(hybrd) that survived my heater disaster and he holds his own again an Oscar 3 times his size...but I think in a couple of month he is going to be food...

Sounds like my buttikoferi, just a complete bastard, terrorizes everything in the tank until they eventually die.
You said its blue with horizontal stripes? If they are vertical this could be the same kind of fish.
