Hey guys I have a breeding pair of Jewel Cichlids and theyve spawned eggs 4 times! the first time they hatched the eggs and kept them for almost three weeks! they were then eaten i assume and after this they only spawned eggs then ate them :( any answers as to why? there are 7 other africans in the tank aswell! maybe should i set up a twenty gallon and use it to spawn?? Tell me what your thinking? Also I have come to realize the female lays eggs after a water change using colder water.. someone said it simulates the rainy season? I would also like to check the validity of this statement! Thanks

Well hello and welcome to MFK,
To start off with you absolutely will have difficulties raising fry in a tank with anyone else other then the parents, they will be picked off. A breeding pair will routienly breed on average once a month or every 4 weeks. During the off breeding times your male will be pretty aggressive towards the female unless there
fry being raised in there tank. You can adaquately breed and keep them in a 20 gallon alone and remove the parents you can raise the fry in the 20gallon and put the parents back in your general community tank. As to water changes enticing breeding is absolutely true I have noticed this both with cool and warm water changes in general and even works with Central and South American cichlids.
