Hello everyone,

I got tanks for some years but i'm new in the Jewel cichlid loving club? . I got these two paired but i'm troubled about the exact species of these 2. Are they same species? (lifalilii, bimaculatus,Guttatus etc) or are they different species? if so, will the hybrid be a bad combination of the two or is it a good thing? I find it difficult to search on the internet for jewel cichlids. It seems there's not enough info shared about these cause it's a very aggressive fish and not so popular as other cichlids. Any advice would be more than helpfull!

THANKS IN ADVANCE!?

Jewels tend to be bred in a number of forms recently. From the photos I would go with a pair of bimaculatus - turquoise bred type.
Problem with Jewels is as you mention, they are under rated as they have a bad reputation for being agressive. If kept in large accommodation with similar sized fish they make great community fish - until they breed! Getting rid of the fry can also be problematic as they are great parents, breed regularly and no one wants them. But, they are a fantastic breeding programme if you can find someone who does want them. Watching them colour up, display, lay, care for eggs, care for fry and try to fight off even their keeper from watching is great.
