I have a ton of them. I got a pair to breed for use as feeders. The problem is the dang things are survivors. My bichirs and catfish (with the exception of my gulper cat) would eat them but only reluctantly, and soon I had colonies of jewel cichlids in 3 of my 4 large tanks (that are in use). I came up with the brilliant idea of putting all the jewels into the 50 with my gulper, and for good measure I put in a striped raphael and a common plec to keep the eggs down (the plec normally resides in my 240, and would return when the jewel invasion died down). Well, the jewels would have none of it and beat the gulper down (unfortunately, it did not make it despite my best efforts). So now I have a tank of cichlids and no one to eat them.
So my question for you: what to put in the 50 to eat them? I would like a fish that doesn't get more than 12" long, doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and is actually available to purchase. I was thinking a wolf fish. Would that work?

do they really have to be eaten? sounds like store credit to me. i dont care if they get eaten but free money rocks

or you can make it a jewel chiclid tank
i always make sure to scatter there eggs in my jewel chiclid tank

They are hardy little sobs. I vote to take them to the LFS.

well this should be in the African Riverine and Madagascar forum but yeah i agree with the others... if there are too many take them to your LFS, most stores sell them for somewhere in the $4-8 range for medium sizes so that could add up to BANK if you have a lot!

i say fry them and eat them yourself to show your fish just how tasty they are!

jewels are not particularly desired by most LFS, so why not just give away/trade the breeders

I don't do fish trade ins, and the jewels are not the best quality. I bought 5 from petsmart (random 5, not show quality or anything) and let them pair up and the losers were sent to my big tank to be fish food. So far a red wolf fish is my best bet? I just wish I could get a snakehead.
