Do jewel cichlids give birth to live young or lay eggs? I got in today to find an explosion of fry in the tank lol... if they lay eggs they hid them well!!

They're eggs layers... I've had them spawn in more than one tank where I never saw the eggs... little fish learn to hide their nests well...
The fry hatch as wrigglers, and aren't really big enough to see for a few days. After about 5 - 7 days, they look like fish.
cool... I was just shocked when I saw it... they're still really young and I've never seen so many babies before... they're defending them very well at the moment
Errrm I'm quite new to this so didn't realise there were types of Jewels.
Here are some pictures of the pair and if you can make out the fry (they're tiny still) then cool lol!

Just thought I'd add this too... everyone think he is a young Aulonocara Baenschi ? (Talking about the larger fish at the top)
