I bought 3 Jewel cichlids about 3 weeks ago. I put them with 3 Blue Rams, 1 Japari, 1 pitbull pleco, 3 golden algea eaters. I lost 1 blue ram so I thought I might have a breeding pair and then the other night I go down to check on my fish and found a bunch of eggs and 2 very protective parents. I went and bought something to split the tank. We'll see what happens. I will keep posting.

The pics of the eggs all together were taken last night. I believe that something ate them if it wasnt the parents. Now they are all scattered. There is still a ton but not as much. maybe the parents ate some. I have heard of them.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Congrats, keep us updated. They are very pretty.

Well my jewels are the meanest in my cichlid community, and blue rams are not that aggressive. So I wouldnt doubt if the jewels just wanted to kill it. Congratz on the babies though

The Jewels didn't eat the eggs, they defend their eggs and fry to the death. I used to have a mated pair of Jewels in with a 9" Oscar. The Oscar ruled the tank, until the Jewels bred. Then they beat the crap out of him. I had to remove the Jewels and fry from the tank. One of the Jewels jumped a foot out of the water and hit my face.

If some of the eggs went missing they may have turned white and the jewels will eat them so that fungas doesnt grow on them and ruin all of the eggs. Nice jewels and good luck .
