Where the Parachromis roam...
Can they live with the big boys??Texas,Dempseys,Cubans etc,i got 2 for free about 2" i was wondering if they can hang Aggressive wise with these fish??Thanks Nick.C.:nilly:P.S. they are not in the same tank yet,if i put them in the same tank the other fish will only be somewhat larger inch to inch and a half.

Yes they can, but it really depends on what size tank that you have... Jewel are just as aggressive as the cichlids mentioned, but they just don't get as large... What size tank are we taking about?

they can get along with ca/sa cichlids but all depends on which ca/sa you want to mix them with and the tank size.

It actually helps that it will be small. It could have its own cave that nobody else fits into.

Aquascape your tank good, with hiding spaces and it should work... 125 gallons should be good.

yeah they will be fine, i had a jewel pair with all the cichlid grow outs in my tank from 1-6.5inches and these were aggressive fish like midas and JDs and carpintis that were much larger than them and they straight up owned the small area of the tank where they were spawning (i had them to produce feeders but i think they were too inbred, the eggs were always fertile but they would always eat them) they also completely tore up a BGK i had at the time that was twice their length so badly that i had to put him down, like they had his skull showing in one spot, these guys were just as bad as any convict, just smaller

Right now i have them in a 55 gal tank with a couple flagtails a couple of tinfoil barbs and a baby grammode, and they havent bothered anybody, the grammode found a spot and chases the jewels away.Is there a size that the jewels go crazy or something

Jewels are no match for a grammodes. Jewels are naturally aggressive and will reach maturity faster than a large cichlid, so they will in most cases be just as dominant as the large cichlid in large tank. A 55 gallon tank is not a large tank so you may not see the jewel repond with much aggression... Although a breeding pair of jewels will keep all occupants in the tank busy...

I put the jewels in my 125 gal tank, everything seems fine,i have been told so many different stories about jewels"they are pure phycos, they will kill anything in the tank,etc..."i just dont see it yet??
