any one know anything about these i came across 5 babies and i was wondering how big of a tank i need to have 2 breeding pairs in some one told me that only one pair per tank but i kinda thought if there is enough room for more to cohabit that it would be ok to breed

At least a 125g, 6ft long tank. And even then two pair would be tough. These guys get vicious when breeding, make sure to have a tank divider on hand just in case.

ETA: If they're just babies right now, a 75g would suffice. But look out if any of them pair up and breed.

I had two pair in a 75g and it ended with one breeding pair and thier fry. They killed the other pair (and I mean ripped them apart in one night) in the tank. They are a very territorial cichlid as others have said so I wouldn't recommend keepng more than one pair after they have grown out unless you have a really large tank. Another word of warning, once they are a breeding pair they breed like crazy. Right now I have over 200 fry that nobody wants!!! And I just checked the tank this morning and they have already laid another batch!! Even the LFS wont take them becuase they cant sell them. I have been culling and using some of them as feeders for my other tanks. Good luck to you and hope it all turns out well.

thanks so much and i was kinda hopping for them to breed like crazy....i need feeders that dont die really fast like goldfish i really appreciate all the advice thank you
