what did they lay on?

ive been trying for a couple of months now to get mine breeding after i brought them as an established pair from the fish shop and the lil fkers still havent reproduced yet!

for one thing jewels are for the most part "good parent" not unlike mbuna, so taking them from the parents isn't necessarily a good idea, in fact its not unknown for a pair to try to kill each other when all they're fry are takin. what else is in the tank?? how big is tank?? are the jewels eating the eggs cause they normally dont do that for no reason.

they layed on a peice of slate there are 1 bristle nose cat 1up sidedown dat 2 pictus cas 2 silver sharks 2 albino tiger barbs a few danios n 3 mollys o n another jewel who stays up the other end there was a lrg angel but last nite they killed it as they r diggin again they r in a 4ft tank

jewels normally only eat there own eggs if they are unsuccessful at fertilizing the eggs, and i guarantee you thats those jewels are just gonna keep killing your other fish, as long as they are mating, there insanely aggressive when mating. id say your best choice would be to either give the jewels they're own tank, or too take all they're tankmates out, ASAP. they need they're space while there doing they're thing. i need to stress this one point to you, if you dont separate, any fish that come near those jewels eggs/fry is toast. Dont forget they're african cichlids.

thanx m8i got in from wrk 2day n tried 2 get the dead angel out n the jewel was attakin me when i looked bhind the plants where she was there r 50-60 free swiming babys about 5mm long she was feeding them .all other fish r staying up other end so sould i leave them if so when can they go in my 2ft tank 2 grow and can they go back with mum n dad when they r bigger

you can leave the tankmates in at your own risk, and id say to leave the fry in with the parent for around 2 weeks from hatching, then separate the fry from the parents, BUT REMEMBER TO NOT TAKE ALL THE FRY FROM THE PARENTS!!! leave a couple fry in, overwise you will cause some serious aggression between the jewels, and yes you can put them back in when there bigger, just dont put the fry back in until there to big too be eatin by any fish in your tank including the parents. congrats and gl with your fry.
