Well I turned in an application to a "Ma and Pa" pet shop a couple weeks ago. They called me back last night to schedule an interview. Well, I wasn't home last night and being a 16 year old kid I woke up around 1 this afternoon. So I get up and listen to the messages and they said that they would like to schedule an interview and would like it to be at 12:30 tomorrow (which is today) and if 12:30 won't work we can reschedule. So I called them back right after I listened to the message (the lady left her cell phone number), and I still havn't heard from them. Should I call them again? Or is the ball in their court now? Also what should I wear to the interview?

Thanks
Mike

call again. a buttoned down shirt and a pair of slacks should do fine for an interview for a job in a pet shop.

think this way... they will a tons of apps, if you only call back once, they will think, he does not really want the job... call again and keep calling until you talk to a real person. twice a day will work... or stop by dressed nice if you can not get a hold of them... can do an on the spot interview...

You know I would probably call like 2-3 more times in the next couple days but I find its much easier to get a job if you go in and talk to them in person. Ask for the manager/owner and apologize for missing the call and just chat it up and ask about when a good time to take an interview would be. Over-dress. I went into a interview for a car wash in kahki and a button down shirt. No hats, no gum, cell phone OFF (not on vibrate or silent). BTW I got the job on the spot. Good luck man and let them know about your experience and LOVE for animals. Talk yourself up and show off a bit.

Reptech- It's in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. It's called Friends of Nature. Why?

Joel- Are you sure that seems kind of too dressed up. I was thinking more of a nice pair of jeans (No holes) and a dress shirt.

Mike- Thanks you. It's a little late to call them back again today so I'll call tomorrow after school.

Chad- I'm going to go talk to them in person. I'm just calling to set up a good time. If I can't get a hold of them I'll go in there.

Ya should be a bit of leeway on them leaving a message ... They dunno if you were outta town or what ... Dress sharp and go say hello ... for sure give a call back and say you will come down ......

You can never be too dressed up for an interview, it shows the employer you are serious about the job. Definitely go for nicer pants than jeans. If there is some kid interviewing in jeans, and you show up in khaki's or slacks you already have a one-up on the other guy.

I agree with khaki's and a descent button-up shirt. I have hired numerous people and as an employer it's always nice to see someone who gives a crap. Remember, it is NEVER a bad idea to act, look, or talk like you care, people will respect you for it. You can always over prepare and win, but if your under prepared you will always lose. Good luck.
