illinois for now
I'm currently a senior in high school, and I'm very interested in freshwater ecology. What are some job titles that would allow me to study fish? And, any course suggestions that may help me in that field. I'm interested in killifish and predatory fish, but also welcome to any fish related job considering there is so much I don't know.

I'm also interested. I graduated with a B.S. in Biology and am having trouble finding a job in a related field.

If I were your age, that field would not be my career choice. Very few jobs and not much pay. Here is a read: http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/jobs/careers.asp
Fishery management and research would be a great field for me. Thank you for the link; however i believe that jobs in this field are the only jobs I would really love, I've tried out many other fields including engineering which almost had me hooked. But, After a few years of obsessively reading about fish I think its time to get paid for it.

If you have facebook, here are two pages that you should consider.

I am graduating with a degree in Biology (fish focus) from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point (UWSP).

The biology program here is large, and features many wonderful professors that are eager to work with you in any field that might interest you.

Class sizes are smaller, and interaction with the professors is a must.

Jobs and research opportunities abound, seeing as how I was hired as the manager of the Live Fish Lab in my second semester at the school.

Im about to leave town, and dont have time to cover the rest of the ICEBERG of opportunities that I have had here, but here are the facebook pages of our lab, and our society.

We also have a fisheries society that is very active.

Members of all of these are going on to do to good things - and we are already making many great connections from this lab.

Message me and Ill get back to you next week sometime.

If I were you I'd stick with engineering and keep fish as your hobby.

Actually, I was you, and I did stick with engineering! No regrets, and now I can afford my dream tank (as soon as I figure out what is, either SW shark, mbu puffer, or NA native....)

Thank you so much, I've been struggling to find a small college that offers what I want, I'll certainly get back to you soon!

Id say it depends on where you live, around here (great lakes area) fisheries are obviously a HUGE thing and there are many of them. If you live somewhere where the biggest body of water are rivers and small ponds I would move to an area w/ more fish lol

Yeah I currently live in the center of Illinois, getting out as soon as possible. Relocation is not an issue for me.
