That's an oxymoron. Unless you open up your own business and succeed, you'll never live comfortably in this hobby.

become an importer like jeff rapps. I bet he makes a nice living.

Smuggling, heheh.

My neighbour is a marine biologist. Seems to be good money in that but not as exciting as one would think. She has spent many cold weeks trudging through creeks collecting salmon fry.

Commercial divers make a killing as well.

Commercial divers and fishermen make a good amount of money...mostly because the job is so dangerious. Anything where you study fish such are marine bio, aquatic science or icthyology are not generally well paying and pretty science heavy. The people that do the job do it for the love of the subject, not for the money. Then there is aquaculture (fish farming) and I imagin just like farming anything else it is also not all that well paying. I myself was an aquaculture major with a concentration in aquatic science (like marine bio).

I have a bachelor's in marine zoology and a masters in ichthyology. To pay the bills, though, I bacame an engineer.

Lately, there has been an increase in demand in fields related to aquaculture. Genetics and laboratory fields picking up the most in numbers.

I like viboy's suggestion. You can make a killing as an underwater welder with entry level positions averaging $75k to start. You can eyeball the fish while you're acting as a fire/reflash lookout.
